We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the next FurTheMoment meet in Cardiff on Sunday 7 September 2025. Please be aware that there will be significant travel disruption on the day due to the Cardiff 10K road race, as well as potential changes to Cardiff Bus services due to strike action.
Additionally, there are significant engineering works taking place across the South Wales Metro network, and main lines to London and North Wales.
This page explains what’s happening, when it’s happening, and how it may affect your journey.
UPDATE 29 AUG 2025
Cardiff Bus has announced that the strikes planned have been called off. Buses will be running, but will still be impacted by road closures.
In addition to the below, the Tour of Britain is finishing Stage 6 of the competition in Cardiff on the 7th. As such the road closures will be extended to allow them to finish. Thornhill Road into the city centre via North Road will be closed until 3pm.
By Car
The Brecon Carreg Cardiff 10K will take place in the morning and early afternoon.
Roads will be closed in and around:
Cardiff Civic Centre
Pontcanna
Llandaff Fields
Routes through parts of Cathays and the city centre
Expect diversions, heavier traffic, and restricted parking near the route.
Most roads will be open near to the meet time, however:
King Edward VII Avenue will remain closed for the day
North Road and Castle Street will be closed until approximately 12:30.
Advice:
Allow extra time if driving.
Use city centre car parks outside the closure zones where possible.
Roads will reopen gradually after the race has finished and the course has been cleared.

By Train
TFW: Buses replace trains between Cardiff Central and Penarth / Bridgend via Barry before 12:30
Engineering work is taking place between Cardiff Central and Barry, closing all lines on Sunday morning.
Before 12:30:
Buses will replace trains between:
Cardiff Central and Penarth
Cardiff Central and Barry Island
Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Barry
No trains will run between Radyr and Cardiff Central via Fairwater.
Ticket acceptance:
You can use your ticket at no extra cost on Cardiff Bus services 61 / 62 / 63 for travel to / from Ninian Park / Waun-Gron Park / Fairwater / Danescourt / Radyr

Engineering work is taking place between Newport and Hereford / Shrewsbury, closing all lines.
Buses will replace trains between Newport and Shrewsbury. A few early morning / late night replacement buses will be extended to run to / from Cardiff Central.

TFW: No trains between Cardiff Central and Coryton / Caerphilly / Rhymney
Engineering work is taking place between Cardiff Queen Street and Coryton / Rhymney, closing all lines.
To / from Rhymney:
Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Caerphilly / Ystrad Mynach, Bargoed and Rhymney.
To / from Coryton:
On Saturday only, you can use your ticket at no extra cost with Cardiff Bus on services 21 / 23 / 27 between Cardiff city centre and Coryton. (see "by Bus", above)
On Sunday, Coryton station is normally shut so there is no ticket acceptance in place.
To / from Penarth:
Additionally on Saturday, a reduced service will run to / from Penarth as a result of the above engineering works. You can use your tickets at no extra cost with Cardiff Bus on services 92 / 93 / 94 between Cardiff city centre and Penarth.

TFW: Buses replace trains between Carmarthen and Swansea before 09:55
Engineering work is taking place between Swansea and Carmarthen / Whitland, closing all lines.
Before 09:55, buses will replace trains between Carmarthen and Swansea.
Additionally:
The 00:12 Swansea to Carmarthen service will be replaced by a bus
The 07:48 Carmarthen to Pembroke Dock service will start from Whitland at 08:04. For travel between Carmarthen and Whitland, you should use the 07:10 Carmarthen to Haverfordwest replacement bus
The 07:55 Carmarthen to Milford Haven service will start from Haverfordwest at 08:35. A replacement bus will run from Carmarthen to Haverfordwest
The 09:55 Carmarthen to Milford Haven service will be retimed to start at 10:00
The 10:03 Carmarthen to Pembroke Dock service will be retimed to start at 10:15

GWR: Amended Great Western Railway services to / from London Paddington
Engineering work is taking place between Hayes & Harlington and Slough, closing some lines.
Long distance services:
An amended and slightly reduced service will run, with long distance services to / from London Paddington being retimed to depart up to 7 minutes earlier than usual or arrive 7 minutes later than usual.
Additionally, the 08:04 and 08:44 London Paddington to Penzance services will depart earlier than usual at 07:49 and 08:38, respectively.
Local services:
Most trains between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway will be retimed to run up to 4 minutes earlier or later than usual.
Additionally, the 06:38 London Paddington to Reading will depart at 07:06 and operate later throughout.

By Bus
Strike Action
Potential for Cardiff Bus strikes on the weekend of the meet, which are due to be voted on Friday 29th August.
Most services will be heavily impacted and a contingency timetable put in place.

Service Changes

By Coach
Due to the road closures, National Express coaches will be unable to call at Cathays (Cardiff University), and will instead call at Sophia Gardens.
